Somehow we’re already in the middle of summer. I think this is the number one thing adults say, but I truly can’t believe how much faster time goes as we get older.
It’s only been about a month since my last Life Lately post, but somehow nothing has changed, but everything is different. Life, right?
So here’s what I’m currently:
Eating:Â This has been quite the topic of conversation lately, and I’m working on like 4 posts on the matter, but I will say that for breakfast lately, I’m loving a piece of sesame rye crisp bread with smashed avocado and a hardboiled egg on top, topped with salt, Everthing But The Bagel Seasoning and sriracha.
Reading:Â “Kitchen Counter Cooking School” by Kathleen Flinn. She’s a Seattle author and wrote “The Sharper Your Knife, The Less You Cry” about her time at Le Cordon Bleu in Paris. In “Kitchen Counter…” she takes a group of strangers who claim they don’t have the time or money to cook for themselves and their families, and shows them that it’s achievable and cheaper than they realize. It makes me want to go to cooking school, and it’s eye-opening and heartbreaking to learn about what the average person buys at the grocery store thinking they’re being healthy, and the quiet shame that goes along with not knowing how to properly provide a well-rounded meal.
Wearing: Well, I’ll tell you what I’m not wearing: jeans. I’m currently embarking on a self-inflicted “No Jeans July” challenge to get myself out of the box a little and wear the things in my closet that I do love, but always look over on my way to the pile of t-shirts and denim. Check my Instagram for daily #nojeansjuly updates.
Inspired by: Chefs. I wasn’t kidding when I said I want to go to cooking school. I currently have quite a few pipe dreams in the queue, but cooking school is definitely on the short list. If anyone has any good movies about chefs/cooking or non-fiction books related to the topic, I’d love to know about them!
Doing Before Bed:Â I go through spurts of not being able to fall asleep at night, so I’ve been taking this Calm drink I found at Whole Foods. You mix it with half a glass of warm water before you go to bed, and it actually works – it helps me fall asleep and stay asleep.
Listening To: A friend recently introduced me to David Ramirez and I’m hooked. And I also just revisited the Big Little Lies soundtrack. Season 2 can come at any time now…
Working On:Â Consistency. I’m consistent in many things related to my blog, but my actual blog takes the back burner, when it should be my first priority. So I’m working on that.
Trying To:Â Plan more travel for the next year.
Planning: See above and Life Lately Ep.2
Appreciating: My body and what it’s capable of. I recently pulled my neck really bad and was in excruciating pain for about a week just because I leaned weird when I took my pants off to get ready for bed. Lately after a hard workout, I’ve been consciously appreciating that my body can move in its entirety and that I am able to complete something like that.
